Weeds are popping up around the city and have been of particular concern to the City of Phoenix. As recently reported by Channel 5 news, overgrown weeds present a fire danger. Of particular concern are the weeds at abandoned houses. The Neighborhood Services department is looking to correct this by inspecting the area and getting in touch with the owner even if it is the bank.
What does this mean to you? If you have a home nearby with an overgrown weed problem a fire could ignite in the brush and carry it to your home. Simple items such as a glass can reflect off the sun and create a spark.
What should you do? The City of Phoenix has taken steps to help and is encouraging you to contact the Neighborhood Services department at 602-262-7844 to report a problem.
In the meantime the department recommends at least a 15 foot break between your house and the brush to protect you.
